A Classic Gentleman's lounge/smoking jacket, with a canine twist. 

The character of Peppermint in this musical, Tilly the Trickster, unlike the book, is an anthropomorphized companion to Tilly.  Constantly exasperated by his inability to be understood he, in a pompous English accent, comments on the qualities...and follies, of his human caretakers.

Peppermint's smoking jacket was made from some upholstery material, for the body, that had been sitting around for years and an old plush blanket, for the facings and trims, that was purchased from a thrift store.  It is fully lined and has patch pockets. 

This jacket is at home on a refined, scholarly dog, or perhaps a playboy from the 1970s.
