Driving Miss Daisy
Tailoring by
Janson Fangio
This was made for the actress playing "Daisy Werthan." It is made from an actual pattern from the 1950s.
The action of the play "Driving Miss Daisy" takes place over the span of some 30 years from the 1940s to the 1970s and, due to the fluid nature of the scene transitions, "Daisy" has really no time to make any drastic changes of costume from era to era. As the designer, I chose a dress style that was not too at home in one decade or another, but could fit in any whilst being authentically styled to the mid 20th-century. IT also needed to be of a length in hem and sleeve to fit under various night clothes and outer wear to accommodation all the scenes. having "daisy" in one dress throughout the entire play worked well with our production's very minimal use of props and sets, e.g. two chairs represented the car.
