Guys & Dolls
Tailoring by
Janson Fangio
For this show I made 3 men's tunics and 1 ladies' tunic for the "Save-a-Soul" missionaries. They are modeled after the Salvation Army uniforms of the early 20th century. I patterned each one from the actor's individual measurements; For the men's tunics I used "The Blue Book of Men's Tailoring (1905)" to draft them; for the female one I worked from a basic sloper.
Interesting anecdote: The fabric for these - there were seven total "missionaries," so I had to order about 25 yards of fabric - came very late and we had to make all of these costumes in the space of about 8 days, in the middle of technical rehearsals. I made these 4 tunics and one other stitcher made 4 matching skirts as well as helped make the other three ladie's tunics. I drafted the patterns for all 7 tunics.
