I am a self-taught tailor, learning from text-books, some very long out of print, trade magazines, blogs, picking the brains of professionals I have met, and from simply taking apart existing garments, looking at their guts, and trying to put them back together. 3 years as an alterations tailor for the Broadmoor Hotel allowed me to get inside and personal with all manor of clothing from pretty much all levels of quality - an invaluable experience on my journey. 6 years as The Costume Shop Manager and Resident Costume Designer for the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center gave me the opportunity to experiment with the techniques I had gleaned and build from scratch a myriad of garments for many different body types in the relatively forgiving world of theater, at least as far as quality and precision go, for which I am extremely grateful. At the end of the day, however, the devil is in the details and my true desire is to be a real bespoke tailor and achieve the title of "Master" of the trade. Here is an account of what I have achieved thus far on my own; I can only get better.
