Custom Tailored trousers and Dinner Jackets
For each of the four actors in the FAC's production of "Forever Plaid," I Drafted, from each individual's specific measurements, the patterns for both the trousers and jackets. I used no commercial or pre-printed patterns of any kind for these garments; with the sole exception of the cummerbunds which were made from a Vogue pattern.
With some assistance from a friend who wanted to learn more about tailoring, i.e. he helped, under my guidance, with some of the inside canvasing, pad stitching, and both drafted the sleeves for me and made some of the shoulder pads, these 8 garments - 4 trousers and 4 dinner jackets - were made entirely by me and mostly by hand. Most of the basic construction such as the long seams, lapels, pockets and sleeve settings were done by machine for the sake of time economy, but all pad stitching, canvas assemblies, shoulder pads, button holes, and much of the lining assembly was all done by hand. The "embroidered" names in the lining were achieved by laying out with a baste stitch the font with ribbon and zig-zag stitching it in place. Please consider the results: |
